Telecom B2C

Telecom (B2C) is the best-performing industry in the 2017 study, as it was in 2015. The industry has a consistently high performance in the dimensions and the individual telecom (B2C) companies perform strongly compared with all other companies.

Telecom B2B

Telecom (B2B) is the second-best industry in the study and is far ahead of the other B2B industries. The industry performs strongly in multiple dimensions and is the best in digital product experience.

The retail industry ranks highest after the telecom industries (B2C and B2B), with a satisfactory grade overall (7.25). As in 2015, the industry leads in e-commerce, but still faces challenges in the mobile dimension.

The media industry receives a very high digitalization grade in some areas, while it lags behind in others. There is intense competition within the industry to become the best media company.

Passenger transportation

The passenger transportation industry has improved its overall ranking by one place compared with 2015, moving up to fifth overall. This is largely explained by a comparatively strong performance in digital product experience.

The companies within the energy industry have not been able to keep up the same pace of digitalization as many of the other companies and their performance this year is worse than last time.

On average, the bank industry performs similarly to last year with a sufficient grade (6.75) overall. The lack of improvement during the year means the industry drops to seventh place in the total ranking.

Food retail

The food retail industry has improved its overall performance, going from sufficient (6.25) to just below satisfactory (6.75) this year. The biggest improvements are in the e-commerce and mobile dimensions, while food retailers have fallen slightly behind in digital product experience.

Insurance

The insurance industry is ranked ninth overall, which is a drop of two places compared with last year. Digital marketing is the industry’s strongest dimension, where it ranks fourth.
